I began designing knits with myself in mind.
When I was pregnant with my firstborn, Max, I still hadn’t figured out why you might want to knit for babies or children. I still had my eyes on my own (slowly expanding) figure. After he was born, though, my view shifted downwards, to ground level, to the small fatty bodies of my babies.
So when I was pregnant with my second child, I’d learned the intense pleasure of knitting tiny things for squishy little bodies, items that would only fit for a couple of months, at best.
On the late days of pregnancy, on days that my toddler Max was home with me, we spent most of the hours together in the flat. I’d sit on our battered navy-blue leather couch with him next to me, and I’d read him stories. He turned the pages, while I knit teeny-tiny sweaters. These are just a few of them.
