This year, I’m going to be better, smarter, faster, stronger, younger, thinner, and work twice as hard, play twice as much, design more popular things, and, and, and, and…
Yeah… I know, my enthusiasm for new beginnings is EXHAUSTING!
But, being real, my genuine intentions are to:
- Run 208 times this year (average 4 runs / week), and add another friend (or three) into my run schedule. To manage this, I’ll schedule to run 5 times / week regularly, so when things go wrong my average will work out over the long run.
- 2021: 192 runs / 602 mi
- 2020: 197 runs / 410 mi
- 2019: 194 runs / 376 mi
- 2018: 116 runs / 190 mi
- 2017: 86 runs / 195 mi
- Be (at least a little) more honestly myself with loved ones
- Less performing, less showing off; risk being my ordinary-ass self
- Practicing having conflict with people I care about… begin to practice how to disagree and have conversations when positions differ, in ways that are respectful and loving
- Tackle changing these kinds of habits and behaviours one little step at a time
- Stay sober. This one I began again in August 2021, but I’m going to roll it in as a stated goal for 2022 because it’s great. My life is better, I enjoy myself more without alcohol, I wonder if I’ll feel the same at the end of 2022. Related to sober, I wanna watch myself for other numbing / avoidance behaviours, and build habits that keep me living inside my life rather than avoiding it.
I have a lot of projects, work goals and personal to-dos that I want to tick off this year too… but the above three items are on the top of my list for personal development.
Often New Years resolutions get a bad reputation. But I desperately love new beginnings, because they’re so filled with excitement and possibility. So I always go in big for the start-of-year planning process.
